Regeneration of the Bridleway.
Work has begun to regenerate the bridleway running parallel to Sutton Hill. The project is funded by a grant from 'Farming in a Protected Landscape' (FiPL) and the residue of money generously donated by villagers early last year that allowed some diseased Ash trees to be felled.
The first stage has been to clear trees that have fallen across the bridleway in the recent gales. I am afraid that the ground has become very churned up and difficult for walkers at present.
Given the nature of what is to be done, this is unlikely to improve before the work ends which we hope will be the beginning of March. There will be times when the bridleway will have to be closed due to the nature of the operation. These dates will be published in advance.
We have also started to fell some non-native Norwegian Spruce trees. The clearance of non-native species from woodland is an important element in the objectives of FiPL. It is intended that the timber should be used, where necessary to support the bridleway.
I am afraid it will be a disruptive few weeks for anyone who wishes to ride or walk along but we hope that the improvements will make public access that much easier.
