Just one week left to complete nomination forms – don’t delay and ensure your name is on the ballot
You now have only one week to deliver your nomination forms. The deadline to deliver the forms is 4pm on Wednesday 2 April. Please don’t leave it until the last minute and ensure your name is on the ballot paper come 1 May.
With that in mind, as we approach the close of nominations it is more important than ever that you refer to the checklist at the front of the nomination paper and ensure your forms are completed correctly, as there is less time to correct inaccuracies.
Please complete the parish nomination form (for standing as a city, town and parish councillor). Please ensure the correct nomination forms are completed for the election type you wish to stand in, as we are legally not able to accept the nomination if it is completed on the wrong type of forms.
Parish council nomination forms should be used for towns and cities as well.
Please be aware that if no nominations are received or there is an insufficient number to make the council quorate, an election will have to be re-run to fill the vacancies in your town or parish. No nominations or inquorate will mean that the council cannot run or legally take decisions, as existing councillors will retire on 6 May.
Book an appointment for a smooth nominations process
A reminder that the booking system to enable candidates to bring in nomination forms is still live and we are strongly encouraging you to book an appointment because we cannot guarantee that people dropping-in can be seen on demand. There are slots available so please take a look and secure one. In order to use the booking system, please create a ‘MyWilts’ account on the website.
The booking system will automatically provide the delivery location of where the nominations should be delivered when they book.
Here is a reminder of some top tips for the nomination process:
The checklist at the front of the nomination paper is a vital tool to ensure people have completed the form as required. Remember you should submit all of the pages of all the forms, even the legislation.
Check the dates – the earliest a nomination can be signed is 2 March 2025
Check the subscribers’ electoral registration numbers. Our customer services team is happy to confirm electoral registration numbers if anyone wishes to call 0300 456 0112 with the full name and address of their subscribers. More information on subscribers can be found on the Electoral Commission website.
Double check people are using the correct form. For election to Wiltshire Council, please use the form for ‘Local Government’ elections. For election to a parish, town or city council people must use the form for ‘Parish’ elections.
If you haven’t already, please watch our candidate and agent webinar for more helpful information on the nomination process .
We’d like to remind you that if people are bringing in nomination forms on behalf of candidates, they will be asked to fill in a contact form for each individual candidate, which includes providing a personal email and phone number, so that we are able to email them regarding the status of their nomination forms and other electoral information.
Please have this information to hand when attending an appointment.
What happens next?
When nominations close the Returning Officer will publish the Notices which will show all the candidates standing in each electoral area and if the election has been contested. This information will be available online at Local elections - Wiltshire Council by 4pm on 3 April.
If the election is not contested, then the candidates that submitted nomination papers are automatically elected and will take office on Tuesday 6 May 2025.
